An update from Julia

This is my most recent update via email. It has been a wonderful winter and spring regarding art creation.

Since I moved to Victoria in 2017, I took a break from the “public” and community life. For the first three or so years I was a hermit. I went out the odd time for groceries, or yoga. So when covid restrictions came around I was super happy. Focused on my studies, and then when that was done, I learned how to garden and make sourdough. Those were my covid activities.

Now, in 2021, I am back painting. Hope you will check out my new work, it is what I call my Pacific Northwest palette. I’ve been told it is just “grey” and “moody”, but I see so much potential and vibrancy. The selection of colours are inspired by the deep ocean, the beach, and the cloudy skies of Vancouver Island. Also included are thoughts considering the weight of black and white. I mused on a post on my facebook page that maybe one day someone would be able to “play” my work, as I see the music in the brush strokes and colours.

The subject matter is all Order and Chaos: how we are in control of our own selves to a point, and subject to external forces for the remainder. The most successful are the ones who sway with the energies.
