Everything is serendipitous.
I brought a specific palette with me, thinking that I would keep things simple and classic. I was going to a region of the world that was culturally significant and I wanted to reflect that in my palette. It was a restriction that I knew was going to be tough, but it was a reality that I had to deal with because of travel and suitcase space, and I was curious to know how it was going to affect my work. I normally dislike any kind of limitation, but in this case, consciously chose it.
I did not realize that these would be the natural colours of the region where I was going. The pale prussian blue, the ochres, the white, the greys are sublimely subtle and mysterious.
